The latest developments from Orlando International Airport (MCO).
Orlando, FL. – As of 10:30am today, all passenger flights have departed Orlando International Airport in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Ian.
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has now ceased commercial operations at the airport; however, the airport is not closed. The airport will remain open to accept emergency/aid and relief flights, if necessary. Safety remains a priority.
GOAA has elevated its preparedness. The following activities are in place:
- The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is at full activation
- Jet bridges are tied down
- Ticket counters have been covered for security and protection
- Multiple daily communications with city, county, state and federal emergency management officials are ongoing.
The public is reminded that the Orlando International Airport is not an authorized shelter. Anyone arriving at the airport will be taken to an approved shelter.
Commercial operations are expected to resume on Friday depending on damage assessment to airport property and restoration as required. The Authority will continue to monitor the storm and provide additional updates as needed.

9/28/2022 Operational Update – Hurricane Ian Our airport has now ceased commercial operations in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Ian. We ask you to please continue to work with your airline directly in regard to your travel plans. Stay safe.
9/29/2022 Operational Update – Hurricane Ian Commercial flight operations are still halted for today. A damage assessment is taking place throughout our airport and facilities. All roads leading into Orlando International Airport are closed due to flooding at this time.
