How to make a pop-up camper awning hanging clips on a budget
Sure, you can buy awning hanging clips. I have seen them on Amazon for 19.99 for 4 of them. But I have a hard time paying for something like that for and for only 4 of them. I also feel I can make them for less. So, I did!!!
The items I choose to use are Hyper Tough Canopy Tie Bungees and small 1.5” steel rods. The Hyper Tough Canopy Tie Bungees cam in a 10 pack in a jar and for only $3.88 at Walmart. I found the steel rods at Bomgaars for $1.69 for 3 pieces. I bought 2 packages totaling 6 hanging clip pieces. Now for my tarp, I only needed 4 hang clips, but I had two extra in case I needed them.
Assembling it
I started to assemble the hanging hooks by slipping the steel rod onto the bungee cords, that I previously cut smaller then reattaching the black ball. I made four hanging clips for my tarp. I figured since I only have 4 grommets on the 10’ side of my tarp that would be sufficient to hold the tarp to the old awning tracks.
When I pulled out the container and noticed that the black bungee cord was too long. As a result, I decided to cut the bungee cord in half and replace it back in the black ball provided. Now it was a perfect size.
How to Make an Awning out of Tarp and the DIY Awning Clips
I slipped the hanging clips I made through the awning grommets. Once all four were on the tarp, I began slipping the hanging clips onto the preexisting railing, one by one. Yes!!! It worked. See post on How to Make an Awning for Your Popup Camper.
