Disney debut 2 new services on the “My Disney Experience App” and without fail this always comes with a big buzz. I mean come on, this new concept has kind of been hit and miss with Disney fans and believe me the fans are voicing their opinions. Whether you love or hate it, it is here to stay. Let’s dive in deep to look at the differences.
There are 2 ways to purchase and select arrival windows for the new Lightning Lane entrances, and each option offers a different set of experiences to choose from!
Price!
One of the major differences is the price! While one is complimentary the other is not. At $15 a day, without tax, you can ride with Genie+. Now before you say $15 a day is so bad right. I’m ok with, others have voiced their opinions and I kind of see. See when I travel to Disney it is usually a 10-to-14-day trip with my daughter. When you add that up that’s $300 to $360 extra for just 2 people a trip but imagine of you have 4 people or more. A family of 4 going to Disney for 10 days is $600. That’s an air flight ticket or even spending money.
Attraction Limitations
Another major difference is the attractions, while you can park hop for both, your options are smaller with Genie. The attractions offered for Genie is limited and you only have 2 a day more like an a la carte menu. While the attraction list for Genie+ is larger and you book one at a time throughout the day. Making it possible to add more rides to your day. Depending on the volume of crowds. Note, though it can get pricier on high volume days like holidays and festivals.
I will also make a suggestion that this is for the new Individual Lightning Lane Attractions, you could always stand in stand by lanes. In some not all cases it may not be so bad of a wait. Disney has also updated the waiting time boards to be more accurate than before. How can’t tell you how many times I have been in the standby line to wait longer or in most cases got in quicker. I have also seen people choose not to wait in line because the standby wait times were to long and in fact, they were shorter.
The early bird gets its worm!
Timing is everything! Right, or no? Well for the Genie and Genie+ you must sign up for your day at 7am, in the morning the day you are going and have a park pass reservation. You will need to have this ready for all guests in your party as well. Since its debut, people are reporting that by 9am things attractions are already booked up. That saying the early bird gets its worm is correct in this case!!!
Current List of Individual Lightning Lane Attractions Available for Genie or Genie+
Here’s the current list of Individual Lightning Lane attractions available for purchase at each park. According to Disney, you are only able to select two attractions per day from this list. Not the two attractions don’t have to be at the same park, but they do need to be on the same day and as always with a valid ticket.
