Popup Camper: How to Improve Your Interior Space
When it comes to popup campers’ space can be limited, particularly with more campers or longer outings. With a little imagination and creativity, you can create a cohesive interior space with little to no expense.
Tips for Optimizing Interior Space
#1. Get rid of your non-essentials
Clutter can cause chaos. With as little space as you have in a popup camper, keeping items you don’t use is going to free up a lot of space and time putting everything back. Choose items that are multi-functional and take up less space. The phrase, “less is more, and more is a mess” is key to finding the right balance.
I suggest you keep a notebook of items you used or didn’t use on a few trips. It only takes a couple of trips to find out what you really need and what you can live without. Ask yourself, “Do we really need this?”

#2. Get innovative with your interior storage space
One way to fix your storage space is by being creative and thinking outside the box. What works well in larger RVs doesn’t necessarily work well for popup campers. Make use of all areas in the camper inside and out. Use the ceiling to hang vertical storage for clothes or food storage, use the side walls to hang hooks or mesh storage nets for items like shoes, towels, or keys to name a few. Bungee cords also are great ways to store loose items.
Try using items you already have around the house and don’t need. This is a budget saver and will help you declutter your home as well. Using unused shoe racks, storage bins, bathroom organizers, or closet hangers can help you keep your interior space organized and mess-free. Stores like Walmart, TJ Maxx, or Burlington can offer bargain options. Portable or collapsible items work wonders for storage and are easy to put away. Just remember, “what you take out you must put back in.”

#3. Pinpoint a location for everything
Knowing where each item is placed is very important. I once bought 4 different wine openers because I put them in odd spots. Keep all utensils in one area and the same with other like-minded items. Because we have deep cabinets, I wrote a note on the inside of the cabinet to which items go in them. This helped my family put back items in the correct spots and allow us to clean up faster. Keep items you will need for an emergency in close proximity, also keep items frequently used in areas where you can get to them quicker.
All my kitchen items are stored in bins, plastic drawers, and outdoors where I set up a kitchen area. They are enclosed and kept safe and clean from dust, rain, and any other gross things. When I am ready to pack, they go back in the camper. This frees up more space in the camper.
#4. Maintaining your camper’s storage
Now you have everything set up. Try camping a few times and if need be, rearrange to suit your needs. Once you have things placed the way you like them, then comes the hard part. Maintaining your organization and keeping clutter to a minimum. I will say every year I buy more items for the camper or upgrade something in the camper that always has me modify my storage bins.
All in all, getting rid of unused items, getting creative, identifying along with establishing storage space, and maintaining your organization process will help you to improve your interior space in a popup camper. In addition, it can enhance your camping experience and spend more time with your loved ones, nature, and activities, which isn’t that why we are camping in the first place.
